News: “WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki” Fight Card Finalized
While Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez have dominated the headlines this UFC 121 fight week, the Octagon’s other company quietly released the complete roster for “WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki.” The show takes place inside The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 11th.
Former WEC featherweight champ turned 135-pounder Urijah Faber meets Japanese star Takeya Mizugaki in the card’s featured contest. The bantamweights were originally slated to square off at WEC 50, however “The California Kid” was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.
“WEC has a reputation for putting on the best fights in all of MMA,” Harris said. “This card is filled with the fastest, most explosive competitors in our sport and we expect to give fans another awesome night of action on November 11th.”
After an unprecedented featherweight title run, Faber lost his belt to Mike Brown at WEC 36 and followed it up with a unanimous decision loss in their mulligan at WEC 41. What sealed the bantamweight deal for Faber must have been when reigning 145-pound king Jose Aldo unleashed a whooping on his left thigh.
Although Faber has dropped three of his last five contests, all coming in championship scraps, he remains the organization’s most popular and recognizable athlete.
Mizugaki holds a respectable 13-4-2 record, however made quite the splash in his WEC debut as a last-minute replacement to challenge then champ Miguel Torres for the bantamweight crown. Despite dropping a unanimous decision, he won over many stateside fans with his Rocky Balboa-esque performance.
